Head over to Covert Curiousity for the latest in Immuzikation mash-ups. You'll remember Immuzikation's fantastic rip of Daft Punk & MGMT from a post here a few weeks ago.
Covert Curiosity: "Here are a couple more from Immuzikation, who I told you about not long ago. Dude is really starting to make a name for himself across the musical blogosphere with these mashups, blends, edits, whatever you want to call them. Cut number one combines Digable Planets and The Who, number two pairs Santogold (who was great at SXSW) with the Justice track that spawned a million remixes, and number three has Shirley Ellis clapping alongside Biz Markie. That picture above isn't relevant to any of this, but it sure is cool.

* Immuzikation - L.E.S.D.A.N.C.E. (Santogold vs. Justice)

Friday 6-pack, May 30th

DOWNLOAD (zip file) - Friday 6-pack of mp3s, May 30th
As always, feel free to forward on to anyone who could use some good tunes this Friday.
Tracklisting:
‘Can’t Stop Moving’ - Sonny J.
Musical offspring of Fatboy Slim. (HT to the EMI summer sampler folks)
‘Get Better’ - Mates of State
Indie harmony magic that deserves to be in a commercial, especially the ascendant ending. Mitsubishi Outlander anyone?
‘Raise Me Up’ - Hercules & Love Affair
Get your gay house disco on.
‘Take Your Time’ - Al Green f. Corinne Bailey Rae
Neo-soul and classic-soul collide. Every lover wins.
‘Make It Good to Me’ - Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings
More love for the non-crazy, black version of Amy Winehouse and her backing band. So achingly well-produced, it’s more classic soul than neo soul.
‘Jump’ - Van Halen
If part of you doesn’t immediately go ‘Yes!’ when hearing the first synths here, please delete this blog from your bookmarks, clear your cache and browser history & then get thee to a nunnery.

Pots, Pans & Port O'Brien
Got to see Port O'Brien last night at The Echo with Lacy. (It was her first LA show - so of course, we hit bumper to bumper traffic on the ride over.)
Before they played "I WOKE UP TODAY!", the singer told everyone to come up to the front, 'and grab some pots and pans.'"
They had a big box of old pots, pans, lids and spoons and folks rushed forward and passed them out. Then they had us practice the "OHHHHHhhhhh-WHOOOOAAAAAOOOOOHHOOOOOHOOOHHHHH!" a few times.
And then they brought up a bunch of other folks and rocked it out.
That song almost hurts it's so fun.
Download "I WOKE UP TODAY", here.

Lazy Blogger Monday: Gloom Away
It's been sorta gloomy here in LAla the past 5 or 6 days. And despite a lot of fun, (or maybe because of it?) I've been way too sleepy and sluggish.
Noah & the Whale deploy a video countermeasure, full of ukes, 'loves' and 'sun'. Take a gander.

who killed the mixtape?: Handclaps Are Like A Kiss That Makes You Dizzy

The fine blog 'who killed the mixtape?' waxes poetic about the joy of handclaps. And then provides 14 fine examples in downloadable mp3 form.
who killed the mixtape?: Handclaps Are Like A Kiss That Makes You Dizzy: "Sorry it's been awhile kids but summer is fast approaching (or here already?) and there is always much to be done. Been making some great mixes again and of course felt compelled to share like everyone on the internet does. This one is devoted to the almighty hand-clap, the movement and sound that signifies everything that you love to move to. These songs all have some sort of hand accompianment regardless of how long or short they may be. There is always great love for the hand-clap as it's the 'instrument' most everyone can play (sorry whitey) as it lifts both the spirit and your hips. I realize I'm probably missing some classics here so feel free to fill me in! Enjoy!"

'List of Demands' - Saul Williams
Saul is under the wing of Trent Reznor and it shows. This song is fantastically aggro, melding the anger of spoken word with Mr. Reznor's throttling electronics.
'4 Minutes' - Madonna f. JT & Timberland
"We've only got 4 minutes to save the world." So, let's make it a party, and invite a guy half our age, and that steroid riddled producer who gets all skittery, and maybe some trumpets (and how much time do we have left to save the world? we're good? ok) and then we'll say Madonna's name a few times - and what? does she have to sing? couldn't she have saved the world sometime in her first 5 decades? Ah, well. Saving the world was fun while it lasted.
'OMTTP' - Immuzikation
A mash-up of immense proportions. Immuzikation's remix of Daft Punk's "One More Time" with MGMT's "Time to Pretend," plus The Doors' "Light My Fire". Epic and disorienting.
'100 days, 100 nights' - Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings
Amy Winehouse's backing band, the Dap-Kings, abandons the beehive and coke whorishness for some bona fide soul. Heartache without the crazy.
'Jingle' - The Marcus Wesson Three
Wesson/Peckingham is the new Lennon/McCartney.
'Crazy in Love (Real Tuesday Weld Mix)' - The Puppini Sisters
I've got no idea where this foxtrot cover came from. Who cares. Me and my platoon are so heading down to the USO after the Bob Hope appearance here at Andrews Air Force Base.
'A Change Is Gonna Come (Sam Cooke cover)' - Ben Sollee
When you take on Sam Cooke there's two ways to go: Ben's kinda granola-ey faithful version, a kind of reedy tenor and vaguely long-haired white boy blues, and then there's the no-talent asswipe way (see Bolton, Michael).
